Cleveland Wrestling Finds Early Success

On Dec. 11 and 12, the Cleveland Warriors took a trip to Coos Bay, Oregon to compete in the Coast Classic. They team competed well, finishing in 16th place out 36 teams in the tournament. The team had three placers at the varsity level. Klo Lwae placed 6th at the 103  pound weight class, Junpei Hunt placed 5th at the 126 pound weight class, and Simon Brown also placed 5th at the 132 pound weight class. It was “one of the tougher tournaments in the state,” said Head Coach Jeff Zerba. A medley of old and new wrestlers competed at the tournament and were happy with the result.

On Dec. 16, the team had its first home meet. In a dual meet with Roosevelt, the Warriors left the mat with a victory. It was a chippy atmosphere, with fans being discontented with the referee. There were good individual matches by the team, Klo Lwae, Junpei Hunt, Simon Brown, Harper Lee, Elvis Morrison, and Isaac James, all winning their matches. The team is hoping their recent successes continue Saturday at the Liberty Tournament.
