As part of the Building Consent Culture (BCC) class at Cleveland, I want to talk about our advocacy program and what they can do for students. I hope to inform and make students comfortable using our program. I know it’s hard to speak out, I know from experience, but BCC and our advocacy program hope to empower everyone enrolled in PPS schools, to help change school culture.
We have an amazing team of advocates at Cleveland. Pamela Zigo, a confidential advocate, is available to listen to anyone. Unlike the teachers, Zigo is not a mandatory reporter, so everything you tell her will be completely secure. This resource is free and available to anyone and everyone, regardless of gender identity, ethnicity, and/or sexual orientation.
Our goal in BCC and the confidential program is to show you that you’re not alone, and allow you to speak freely and proudly of experiences you might have gone through. We hope to spread awareness about sexual assault, consent, and the resources available to you, throughout K-12. The earlier we are educated, the earlier we can promote change in our schools/daily lives.
