Members of CARE hang out in the new multicultural library. The class this year is working with the CommuniCare Grant foundation to raise money for legal and social support services for immigrants and refugees in the Portland metro area.

The Cleveland Alliance for Racial Equity (C.A.R.E.) has begun their second year of fundraising with the CommuniCare Foundation. CommuniCare is a program run by the Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation. They will by default donate $7,500 dollars towards C.A.R.E.’s charity of choice, and if C.A.R.E. is able to raise $750 Dollars by mid-February, they will donate an additional $7,500, making a total contribution of $15,000. It may be noted that CARE and C.A.R.E. having almost identical names is purely coincidental, and that CommuniCare fundraising is not related to CHS Gives Back.
The specific recipients of the donations are as of now unclear, but will, according to the C.A.R.E. Instagram be “organizations that provide legal and social support services for immigrants and refugees in the Portland Metro Area.” In accordance with the CommuniCare process, after the funds are raised, organizations that fit the mission statement may apply, and select ones will be interviewed, and potentially chosen by members of C.A.R.E.
If you would like to donate, you can do so through the link on the C.A.R.E. Instagram, chs__careleadership. Prospective donors could also hold out for their upcoming hot chocolate sale, C.A.R.E. merch, like totes, buttons, stickers, and shirts, and art sale in collaboration with students at Mt. Tabor Middle School. An additional collaboration with the Burgerville next to Cleveland is planned to further fundraising efforts.
