On Friday, Sept. 29, the Cleveland High School band program raised $33,000 to fund their program. All bands participated and played music from 4-10 p.m. in the Cleveland auditorium. Gary Riler, the Cleveland band director, said, “The groups played very well for this early in the year and we exceeded our goal by $8,000.”
Most of the money will go towards assisting students with fees required to participate in honor groups. It will also go towards buying sheet music, and paying for buses when the bands play in festivals outside of the district.
“Last year we spent over $17,000 just on assisting students with fees, so we spend [the money] fast,” Riler said.
Keep an eye out for next year’s Play-A-Thon to support this phenomenal performing arts program.
