Cleveland High School’s homecoming week this year was Oct. 13 through Oct. 17 and was jam-packed with fun activities, and seemed to be a comeback for school spirit.
The week started off with different themes for each day of spirit week, and ended with the anticipated homecoming game and dance. The themes were Jersey Day, Adam Sandler Day, Pink Out, Western Day, and CHS Pride, with Adam Sandler Day being the most popular among the student body.
On Friday at the pep assembly, students showed off their excitement and school spirit as they competed to be the loudest grade level. The school dance team, Tenacity, performed for the school and a lucky few also got to volunteer to participate in games in front of the school, such as musical chairs.
In past years, homecoming hasn’t always been super popular. Many students even went as far as considering it overrated and boring. However, this year it was a source of excitement for students, with the addition of a new event.
After school on Friday, Cleveland held their first ever Tail Gator before the football game. This event was free and held on the street outside of the football field. With food and fun carnival games, students enjoyed hanging out with friends and having a fun activity before the much-anticipated game.
Students came to cheer and support the team, but unfortunately, the Cleveland varsity football team lost against Jefferson 55-28 after a challenging game. The final event of the night was the homecoming dance, which was themed “Night on the Bayou.” It was the last homecoming dance that would be hosted in the original Cleveland gymnasium.
Despite the loss of the homecoming game, homecoming week came to a successful end, with lots of student participation. This revived excitement could be attributed to the popular and new Tail Gator, as well as this being a last hurrah for Cleveland. Homecoming 2025 marks the first of many “lasts” in our school building before the upcoming remodel in June.
