Boys snowboarding takes home Sato Cup as OISA State Champions; Boys skiing finishes first in PIL

The Cleveland snowboarding team made the trip up to Mt Hood from March 15-18 for the OISA State Championships. Cleveland brought home a new trophy to Southeast Portland after the event. The boys team won the Sato Cup, given to the team with the highest overall score. The Sato Cup was the highlight of the weekend, but individually and as a team the Warriors picked up a number of awards.

The girls team followed their first place finish last season in the halfpipe with a second place finish this year. The team of Prue Bailey, Abrie Decker, Trinna Conroy, and Kaja Lommen finished behind Wilsonville and claimed a silver, with Bailey finishing second individually. They also finished fifth in slopestyle.

The boys slopestyle team took first place. Benny Cohen finished first in the field with 1000 points, and his teammates Soren Lommen, Chris Liddle and Boone Koozer finished in fifth, seventh and 10th, respectively. In boys halfpipe, the Warriors finished third, with Lommen and Cohen finishing fourth and seventh, respectively. Cohen also took home a silver in the banked slalom, in which the Warriors finished third.

The ski team also had an outstanding season, finishing first in the league as a team. Captain Josh Johnson finished second individually, and his teammates Giuliano Bianco, Henry Johnson, and Reid Hofmeister were third, fifth, and ninth in the league respectively. Henry Johnson was the only one to place at the OISRA State Championships, finishing ninth in giant slalom and fifth in slalom, and fourth overall. The Warriors finished in fifth place overall at state.
