Cleveland students and families were notified on Feb. 8, regarding an incident with a fake weapon on campus. A student brought an airsoft weapon and another student reported the sighting, administrators said.
Airsoft guns are a type of fake gun that shoots plastic BBs; these guns are realistic and are often made of metal or plastic components. By law these guns are supposed to be marked with an orange tip to indicate the imitation weapon; however, this can also be removed or painted over.
“Following a report from another student, staff immediately intervened and found the Airsoft gun. At Cleveland High School, we take the safety of our students very seriously. Bringing items that resemble real weapons—even toys—to school is not permitted by our students or staff members. Doing so can result in serious consequences, including expulsion or even criminal charges,” said Vice Principal Sean Murray.
Students are encouraged to email Murray if they witnessed anything else regarding this incident on campus at [email protected].
