Braided 64 Girls Tournament in Kelso, Washington
How did Cleveland do?
The girls wrestling team sent five girls to the Braided 64 Girls Tournament in Kelso on Friday, Jan. 10 and Saturday, Jan. 11. Aubrey Spangler (135) made it to the third round of the consolation bracket, Wynnie Posedel (115) made it to the second round of the consolation bracket, Maisie Wheeler (235) and Natalie Benn (130) made it to the fourth round in the consolation bracket, and Izzy Herring made it to the finals and placed second.
While not everyone placed it was still a good tournament, it is one of the biggest, toughest tournaments on the West Coast. “Having a tournament this large with this level of competition only an hour away is a privilege,” said Herring.
Despite not wrestling because of an injury, Kiera Callahan went and supported the team. “Seeing so many women wrestlers together is just very inspiring and cool,” said Callahan, Cleveland Girls Wrestler.
What’s next?
The girls and boys wrestling teams are going to Redmond this Thursday, Jan. 16 through Saturday, Jan. 18 for the Oregon Classic. The Classic is one of the biggest wrestling tournaments in Oregon with around 80 schools competing. Posedel is looking forward to wrestling at the tournament. “Wrestling makes me feel like a girl boss,” she said.
