A 16-year-old teenager is recovering after a shooting outside of Cleveland High School, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Police responded to Cleveland at 12:34 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, to a report of hearing gunshots just outside of Cleveland. The school immediately went into lockdown. Police discovered evidence of a shooting outside of the school building, but partially on school grounds.

Witnesses said two vehicles may have been involved, but neither vehicle stayed at the scene of the shooting, police said.

At 12:50 p.m., a 16-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound walked into a local hospital, suffering from a non-life-threatening injury. Investigators have determined that the 16-year-old attended Cleveland High School and was injured in the shooting incident at the school. The Enhanced Community Safety Team has responded to the school and is assuming control of the investigation.

While the investigation is ongoing, Southeast Franklin Street will be closed from Southeast 26th Avenue to Southeast 28th Avenue.
