In an email sent out by Principal JoAnn Wadkins to teachers, data says that the class of 2023 left Cleveland with a 94.3% graduation rate. This is an increase from the ‘21-22 school year, which was around 93%.
According to Portland Public School data, graduation rates across PPS have actually been going down slightly. Only Cleveland, Jefferson, and Roosevelt increased their graduation rates in the past two years. This may be due to the impacts of COVID that are still being felt throughout the education system even after two and a half years since lockdown.
As the only two IB schools in PPS, Cleveland and Lincoln have high graduation rates, but Cleveland narrowly had a better graduation rate last year than Lincoln. The two have slightly higher graduation rates overall compared to Franklin or Grant. The higher graduation rate at Cleveland may be due to the large group of Full IB Students with 70-plus students participating last year.
