This year, the Boys Swim team took the Portland Interscholastic League by storm. Placing second in PIL and winning the league in six different events is an incredible feat. The team’s performance highlighted the depth, consistency, and dedication of its top swimmers. Leading the pack is Eugene Fedetinov who won two individual events and helped two Cleveland relay teams win the league title as well.
In the 200-yard freestyle, senior Brent Welch placed second with a strong time of 1:48.38, while sophomore Gus Williams followed closely in third at 1:52.70. Cleveland also found major success in the 200-yard individual medley, where senior Simon Vanderwal captured first place in 2:03.58. The same group followed up with another victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 3:31.70 and solidifying Cleveland’s position at the top.
Team scoring reflected Cleveland’s overall consistency throughout the meet. Lincoln finished first with 297 points, narrowly edging out Cleveland, who placed second with 271 points. Cleveland’s second-place finish showed how competitive the meet was and how every race contributed to the final outcome.
Overall, the meet reflected the team’s hard work and commitment throughout the season. With standout performances from both upperclassmen and underclassmen, Cleveland showed that they are well-prepared for postseason competition. Their balance of individual talent and relay strength makes them a strong contender moving forward, and their results at districts demonstrate the program’s continued growth and success.
