Team: Swimming

Head Coach: Mollie Starr

Last Year’s State Finish: Boys: 16th   Girls: 20th

Strengths of Team: “We have a strong boys team and girls team. I think our relays will be seeing a lot of success this year. It is hard to predict which individual events we will be strong in because it changes every year. I think we will be strong in the 100 backstroke for both boys and girls and the girls 100 breaststroke. Our distance and sprint freestylers will also be strong on both teams. I think we will compete very well this year in our dual meets. We have a young team of sophomores and juniors who will be very impressive this year. We have our seniors who have the most experience so they will be leading the team,” said coach Starr.

Fun Fact: “Even though swimming is very individual, it is hard to talk to someone when your face is underwater. They have bonded together as a team,” said coach Starr.

Up-and-Coming Members: “On the girls team, Ava Martinson and Rachel Miller will compete well this year. Justice Tomsen, Charrise Hung and Sophia Mecklem will also be more competitive at the varsity level,” Starr said.

“On the boys team, Aaron Knipe, Owen Kaufman, Jason Chong and Tyler Boland will be swimming more varsity events and will compete well at that level,” Starr said.

Outstanding Members: “We have a very strong group of girls. Freshman Siena Geren, sophomores Lily Armstrong, Gemma Dallas, junior Jaime Diep and senior Lejla Biberic will be the core of our relays and will be very competitive in their individual events. Seniors Vivian Phan and Caroline Diamond will be competitive in the distance events,” Starr said.

“On the boys team, we will also have very strong relays with seniors Rees Kyle and Will Tsai, juniors Henry Slater and Jake Yarris being our core relay team. They will also compete well in their individual events and hopefully get some state qualifications again this year. Seniors Andy Ho, Owen Wing and Brian Ma will be competitive in the breaststroke event,” Starr said.

Expectations for the Season: “My expectations for both teams this year is that they practice hard, compete hard and set personal records in their individual events. I think you can only control what you put into your season, to have the best possible results. I would also like to qualify relays and individuals for the state meet this year,” said Starr.
