Varsity Girls Soccer: Sophomores Shine in Season Opener

By Jaden Rapaport, reporter

It’s been a long 10 months of anticipation for the Warriors, coming off the crushing 2-1 defeat to PIL rivals Lincoln in the state quarterfinals last season, but the wait is finally over and Cleveland has moved on to beat Westview 2-1 away to open the 2018 season.

The Warriors actually fell behind midway through the first half but equalized thanks to midfielder Avery Kyle, sophomore, with the assist coming from Ellie Ruhoff, also a sophomore.

In the second half, Cleveland found the match winner as sophomore Sofia Sosa opened her scoring tally, with an assist from Kyle, lifting the Cleveland to their first of expected many victories this season.

The Warriors next match was on Aug. 30 at South Medford. Look for a story and results at ClevelandClarion.com.
