The cross country team participated in the Northwest Classic on Sept. 15 at Lane Community College, placing 13th out of 28 teams for the boys and 19th for the girls.

Coach Mark Hale-Brown said the course, unlike the rugged Ultimook course with its river crossings, was dry and optimal for producing fast times.

“The conditions were excellent on the course that is similar to the state meet and 34 runners ran their fastest 5k to set personal best times,” Hale-Brown said, adding that there were 52 runners competing.

Senior Miles Takiguchi was the top finisher for Cleveland, running a 16:22:70 in the 5k, placing him 20th out of 120 competitors. Ellie Bamer, senior, was the top finisher for the girls coming in 92nd with a time of 22:08.30. Seven of the Warriors’ top runners in the boys placed under 20 minutes.

Evan Holland from Ashland ran a blistering 14:59:20, placing first in the 5A-6A category.

Senior Zara Replinger and Joe Raggett were nominated as “Race Day Warriors” by the team captains.
