Tito’s Burritos is the staple lunch spot for Cleveland High School students. On any given day, come rain or shine, there is a guaranteed lunchtime line at this beloved food cart. The crowd is composed of students hungry for their burritos, tacos, quesadillas, or anything else that strikes their fancy.
Almost every Cleveland student has feasted at Tito’s at least once, and even if they haven’t, they’ve surely heard of it. It’s very close to Cleveland, located less than two blocks down from the school on Powell Boulevard.
Tito’s Burritos was the first place I ate at during off campus lunch my freshman year. My first praise was for how cheap the prices are. The owners seemingly cater towards the Cleveland students who may not have much money, but still want a delicious lunch.
The cheapest food item is only $3 for one taco, and the portions are huge! The popular go-to order is the beans, cheese, and rice burrito. It’s only $5 with enough food for two meals, or for friends to share. This food cart is so affordable, one could eat there every day if desired, and because the food is so outstanding, some do!
The food isn’t only cheap, it’s also tasty. The burritos always hit the spot. The rice inside is seasoned to perfection, ratios are just right, and the cheese is unfailingly warm and melty. The meat at Tito’s is also noteworthy. It’s cooked to perfection, specifically the Al Pastor, which is juicy and tender. All their meat is seasoned well with a multitude of spices, causing a standout combination every time.
For even more flavor, the verde salsa is my favorite. It’s light, tangy, and adds a tiny bit of spice, completing your superb burrito. Additionally if you’re craving a drink, there’s no need to go to Starbucks. Consider the horchata at Tito’s. It’s the perfect sweet, refreshing, and creamy agua fresca, with a distinct flavor of cinnamon and vanilla. Plus, the horchatas are cheaper and unfailingly scrumptious.
All the food at Tito’s is quality and homemade- with the exception of the tortillas, which are a specialty delivery item. The reason lines stretch down the street is due to the comforting and flavorful quality that only a homemade meal could possess.
Everything at Tito’s is made with love, and Alexandra’s favorite part of working is when she sees the long line of people bursting with excitement during the lunch rush. The length of the line to order food depends on the day, but the wait is normally around five to 10 minutes. This is the only downside of Tito’s – its popularity.
Tito’s knows that their burritos are coveted, but not only by Cleveland students. They get their sales from a mixture of people, which is the reason they will not be moving to 82nd Avenue by the Marshall campus while Cleveland undergoes renovations.
This is disappointing news for Cleveland students, but fear not, the Tito’s owners might have a solution. Alexandra said they are considering connecting with Cleveland’s administration to inquire about a way to mass deliver their burritos every day for lunch. So, students could still enjoy Tito’s, even miles away!
Tito’s is a staple for all Cleveland students, and for good reason. It’s fresh, homemade, cheap, and delicious! It’s for these reasons and more that Cleveland students visit it so much. If you haven’t already, go visit Tito’s for lunch, the burritos will not disappoint.
